Coffee, Covenant & Grace… born this morning.
Most of you know this about me—I heal, dream, live, and breathe through writing. It’s how God and I talk. It’s how I work through the deep places of life. So am I surprised that, after a few days of wrestling and reflecting, He would gently lead me to open a book, read a single verse, and begin something new?
Not really. But I had no idea this would be my morning.
Wrapped in a blanket, coffee in hand, I sat down in my usual quiet space… and God met me there. The words started flowing. I wrote the first devotional for a new series I didn’t even know I was starting. I titled it Coffee, Covenant & Grace.
And then, right after I finished, my Bible verse of the day app lit up on my phone — and there it was.
Deuteronomy 7:9.
“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations…”
The same verse that stirred my heart just an hour before. The same verse that anchored the entire devotion.
That’s how He works. Gentle. Faithful. Present. And always right on time.
So welcome to it. Let’s begin this journey together—Coffee, Covenant & Grace.
Sunday Morning Devotional
A Blanket, a Chair, a Book, and a Cup of Coffee…
There’s something sacred about this quiet corner. A blanket draped over my legs, a favorite chair worn just enough to feel like home, a steaming cup of coffee warming my hands, and a book resting gently in my lap — it’s here that I settle in and breathe. The soft morning light spills through the window, casting gentle shadows across the floor, and for a moment, the world slows down. In this space, I read. I pray. I write. And I let the noise of the week fall away. Because life has a way of rushing in when we least expect it — and this is where I meet the One who steadies me. This morning, I’m sharing a devotional from this very place… not because everything is perfect, but because He is present.
Just a quiet place, a warm cup, and the Word of God.
I didn’t expect much. But the page I turned to stopped me.
“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy…” — Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV
That verse sank deep.
Because if I’m honest—this week held its share of questions. The kind that rise up in the middle of the day when life presses in a little harder than expected. The how, the why, the where questions…
How is this going to work out?
Why is it so heavy right now?
Where is God moving in all of this?
Maybe you’ve had those kinds of days too.
And yet, there it was in front of me—steady, unmoved, true:
He is God. He is faithful. He keeps His promises. He extends mercy.
Sometimes we forget that.
We get caught up in the schedules, the responsibilities, the phone calls, the people we’re praying for, the things that still haven’t changed. It’s so easy to get lost in the hurt, even when there are good things all around.
That’s why scriptures like Psalm 23 and The Lord’s Prayer have been running through our spirits lately—not just as verses, but as lifelines.
“The Lord is our Shepherd…”
What does that mean in everyday life?
It means we don’t have to hold it all together.
We don’t have to be strong all the time.
We don’t have to have all the answers.
He’s leading us.
He’s providing what we need—even when it doesn’t look the way we expected.
He restores our souls when we didn’t even realize how tired we were.
Between work, family, friendships, and everything in between—it’s easy to feel like we’re falling short somewhere. But our Shepherd doesn’t demand perfection. He invites us to follow. To rest. To let Him carry the weight.
The Lord’s Prayer — A Daily Prayer for a Faithful Life
Our Father, who art in heaven
Lord, You are holy and above all, yet so near that You invite me to call You Father. Remind me that I’m not alone—You are not distant. You are present in my daily struggles, my laughter, and even my disappointments.
Hallowed be Thy name.
Your name is holy. Set apart. Worthy of my worship, even when my heart feels heavy. May I honor You today not just with my lips, but with how I treat others, how I forgive, and how I trust.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
I surrender my own plans, Lord. I give You my expectations, even the ones that have left me disappointed. Build Your kingdom in my home, my heart, and my relationships. Let Your will shape my thoughts, my actions, and my attitude.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Provide what I need today. Not just financially or physically, but spiritually and emotionally. Feed my faith. Strengthen me for what I’m walking through. Remind me that You are my source—my Shepherd who never stops providing.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lord, help me let go. I confess the ways I’ve fallen short and ask for grace. And I choose—hard as it is—to release those who’ve hurt me. Betrayed me. Disappointed me. Let forgiveness flow, so healing can begin.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Protect my heart from bitterness, from fear, from the temptation to give up or grow cold. Deliver me from anything that pulls me away from Your truth. Be my guard and my guide.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
It’s all Yours, Lord. The outcome, the process, the pain, the promise. You reign. You hold it all. And I trust You with every piece of my life.
And now we return to Deuteronomy 7:9 with fresh eyes and a reverent heart:
“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God—the faithful God—who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
This is not just a comforting verse—it is a declaration.
God is telling us who He is.
He is God.
Not a version of God we create in our image. Not a God who changes with the winds of culture or time.
He is the faithful God—unchanging, unshakable, unwavering.
And He keeps covenant.
That word, covenant, is sacred. It isn’t a contract that can be broken. It isn’t conditional love.
A covenant is a holy vow—a promise sealed by the very nature of God Himself. It’s God saying:
“I will be your God. You will be My people. And nothing will make Me stop loving you.”
Even when we wander, God doesn’t abandon His covenant.
Even when we falter, His mercy holds firm.
And this verse says something remarkable: He keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations.
That’s not a poetic exaggeration—it’s God’s way of saying:
“My mercy outlasts your mess. My promises outlive your pain. I’m not going anywhere.”
In today’s world, where so much feels uncertain—this is the promise we cling to.
When governments shake, when relationships fail, when we feel weary from the weight of it all…
He is still the faithful God.
So how do we live this out?
We remember.
We open His Word, even when we feel numb.
We pray, even if the only words we can whisper are, “Help me.”
We choose obedience, not out of duty, but because we love Him and trust His ways.
And we pass that faith on.
To our children.
To our friends.
To the next generation watching us live this out when life doesn’t go according to plan.
Because faithfulness is not just what God gives us—it’s who He is.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, You are faithful—steadfast, unshakable, and full of mercy.
When we falter, You hold us.
When we question, You speak truth.
Thank You for being our Shepherd in the chaos, our Father in the quiet, our faithful God through every twist and turn.
Let Your Word come alive in us again.
When we face struggles, betrayal, loss, or the quiet heaviness of daily life—remind us that You are the answer.
To our joy.
To our sorrow.
To our peace.
To our purpose.
Thank You for Your covenant—that holy promise that You are our God and we are Yours.
Thank You that Your mercy is not short-lived but stretches into generations we may never see.
You are the same yesterday, today, and forever.
We trust You with today and all that’s to come.
With devotion from my quiet corner,
Your daughter,
Marie
In Jesus’ name, amen.
(Feel free to end your prayer the same way—just substitute your name for mine. You are His beloved son or daughter, and He hears you too.)
